Ags stay undefeated in LSC North play

DENTON, Texas (Oct. 9) - Junior Rachel Balsiger turned in her best effort of the season Saturday, leading the Cameron volleyball team to a straight-set win over Texas Woman's University.
The Tuscon, Ariz., outside hitter had a match-high 14 kills and hit .429 for the match as the Aggies moved to 4-0 in Lone Star Conference North Division play while climbing to 12-10 overall. Cameron won by scores of 31-29, 30-17, 30-17.
Senior outside hitter Morgan Meyer added 12 kills and 14 digs for the Aggies, while sophomore setter Vicki Ibarra dished out 42 assists. Senior libero Jenny Head led all players with 20 digs and senior middle blocker Nicole Reinhart posted seven blocks.
Cameron limited Texas Woman's (9-13, 1-2) to a .030 hitting percentage for the match, with no Pioneer player reaching the double-digit kill mark. The Aggies also out-blocked TWU 11-5, while posting a team hitting percentage of .254 to put Cameron above the .225 mark for the fourth consecutive match.
Coach Kim Vinson's squad squeaked out a win in the opening frame, but wasted little time taking control of the match in Game 2. The Aggies posted a .433 team attack percentage in the set while holding the Pioneers to a .026 mark. Cameron had 17 kills against six errors in the third game, while TWU hit -.095 with six kills and 10 errors.
Saturday's win set the stage for next week's showdown for the top spot in the LSC North standings with Central Oklahoma. The Bronchos rallied for a five-set win over Texas Woman's on Thursday and were scheduled to put their 3-0 conference record on the line against Midwestern State on Saturday. The Aggies host UCO this Thursday, with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m., at Cameron's Aggie Gym.
