Aggies finish fifth at Shangri-La Shootout
MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. (Oct. 24) - Ryan King finished third overall and the Aggie men's golf team took home fifth place Sunday following action at the Oral Roberts Shangri-La Shootout at the Shangri-La Resort near Grand Lake. King shot a final round of 76 for a two-day total of 218 (+2), six strokes off the pace set by Brent Akins of Oklahoma City University.
Cameron, which entered Sunday's final round tied for third, posted a team score of 305 on the day to finish the event with an 890 total. Oklahoma City won the team title with an 882.
Sunday's effort marked the third time King, a senior from Duncanville, Texas, has finished third in a tournament this year. The senior from Duncanville, Texas, was third at last week's St. Mary's Rattler Invitational in San Antonio and finished tied for third at Cameron's Oklahoma Intercollegiate at the Lawton Country Club last month.
Sophomore Owen Mahaffey and senior Kolby Seals also notched Top 20 individual finishes in this weekend's event, which featured a number of NCAA Division I opponents. Mahaffey fired a final-round 75 to finish 14th individually, while Seals notched a 17th-place finish with a 75, as well.
Travis Lovins and Brad Aycock finished with rounds of 79 and 80, respectively.
Sunday's competition wrapped up a successful fall schedule for coach Jerry Hrnciar's Aggies. In six events so far this season, Cameron has finished out of the top five only once while collecting three tournament team titles. The Aggies are scheduled to resume action at the St. Edward's Invitational on March 7-8, in Austin, Texas.
