Aggies stay perfect in conference play
MATCH BOXSCORE >>
LAWTON, Okla. (Oct. 28) - Sophomore Tayler Turner sparked a dramatic Cameron comeback in the second set, and spurred the Aggies to their ninth consecutive win on Thursday.
The Wichita Falls, Texas, right side hitter led all players in the match with 12 kills, as Cameron rolled to a 3-0 victory over Texas Woman's to move to 8-0 in Lone Star Conference North Division play. Cameron won for the 16th time in its last 18 matches, turning back the visiting Pioneers by scores of 30-22, 30-24, 30-17.
Cameron looked to be well on its way to victory in the opening set, as TWU posted a -.041 hitting percentage in the frame with 13 kills and 15 hitting errors. The Pioneers got back on track in the second set, however, building a late 24-21 lead.
But the Aggies stormed back, knotting the score at 24-24 on back-to-back service aces by Morgan Meyer before getting four more points (on three kills and a block) by Turner. The outburst capped a 9-0 run to close the set and helped the Aggies steal the momentum built by the Pioneers.
Coach Kim Vinson's squad turned it on in the final set, blasting 19 kills for a .298 team hitting percentage in the frame to close out the match.
Turner was one of three Aggies to register double-digit kills in the match. Sister Taran Turner added 10 kills and a .421 hitting percentage, while Meyer picked up 11 kills and 10 digs for her 15th double-double of the season.
Vicki Ibarra added 39 assists for the Aggies, while senior libero Jenny Head collected a match-high 24 digs.
Thursday's win marked the sixth consecutive straight-set win for the Aggies and gave Vinson her 100th career home coaching victory at Cameron. In 15 seasons at the helm, Vinson has posted a 100-54 (.649) record inside Aggie Gym, including a string of 31 straight home wins from 1998 to 2000 that ranks among the longest home-court winning streaks in NCAA Division II history.
Cameron returns to action Saturday, hosting Midwestern State in the final regular season home contest of the year. The Aggies defeated the Lady Indians 3-1 on Oct. 7, in Whichita Falls, marking the last time Cameron has lost a set.
