Aggie Golf to honor 1983 championship team

LAWTON, Okla. (Nov. 1) - Cameron University and head golf coach Jerry Hrnciar will honor the past success of the Aggie golf program Monday, Nov. 7, with a Celebration Reunion Banquet at the Mercantile Hall in Medicine Park. Tickets to the event, which is open to anyone with an interest or connection to the Cameron golf program, are $15 per person ($5 for children under 8).

In addition to honoring the members of Cameron's 1983 NAIA National Championship squad, players who earned All-American accolades during the Aggies' successful run as a member of the NAIA will be recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Cameron was a dominant force in the NAIA in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, qualifiying for the NAIA national tournament eight times, including six consecutive appearances from 1982-87. The Aggies also notched top-five finishes at nationals in 1982, 1986 and 1987. Eight Cameron players earned All-America honors during that span, including two-time honorees Freddy Wisdom, Trey Hansen and Cliff Pierce.

Several former players are expected to attend the Celebration Reunion Banquet, sharing stories from their days with the Aggies, as well as their successes since leaving Cameron. A golf tournament including many of these players will take place Monday, Nov. 8, at the Lawton Country Club.
