Lady Aggies fall to Tulsa in exhibition

TULSA, Okla. (Nov. 4) - Junior Brittany Cooksey had team-highs with 12 points and five rebounds, but it wasn't enough to stop Tulsa from rolling to a 99-52 victory in a women's basketball exhibition contest Thursday at Tulsa's Reynolds Center.

The contest was the final tuneup for the Lady Aggies, who are scheduled to open the 2004-05 regular season at Central Missouri State on Nov. 15.

Tulsa raced to the early lead, shooting a whopping 62.1 percent from the field in the opening half. The Golden Hurricane needed just five seconds to get on the scoreboard, using a three-pointer by Megan Moody to start a 10-4 run to open the game. Tulsa's lead grew to 28-9 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half, before junior Katie Stoll knocked down her second three-pointer of the game to make it a 16-point game at the 10:28 mark.

Brittany Cooksey got the lead down to 15 on the Lady Aggies' next possession, knocking down another trey to make it 30-15. But that's as close as Cameron would get the rest of the way. Tulsa closed the half with a 12-4 run and took a 49-23 lead into intermission.

Cameron improved its offensive numbers slightly in the second half, shooting 35.3 percent from the field compared to 27.8 percent in the opening period. Junior Melissa Steen registered all nine of her points in the second half, connecting on 4-of-7 shots from the field after halftime.

Cooksey produced seven of her team-high 12 points in the second half and finished the game tied with newcomer Ashley Bernardi for team-high rebounding honors with five. Steen recorded three of Cameron's seven assists in the game and led the Lady Aggies with three steals.

Stoll finished with six points, while Bernardi and Duncan senior Christian Buben added five each. Eleven of the 12 Cameron players who saw action in the game scored at least one point.

Four players scored in double-figures for the Golden Hurricane, including a game-high 18 point performance by Moody. Tulsa out-rebounded the Lady Aggies 49-30 and recorded 30 assists in the contest.

Tulsa was whistled for just 11 fouls in the game, resulting in only seven free throw attempts for Cameron. TU got to the line 19 times, outscoring the Lady Aggies 13-4 from the charity stripe.
