Girtmon named LSC North Player of the Week

RICHARDSON, Texas -- Cameron senior forward Marcus Girtmon has been selected as the Lone Star Conference North Division men's basketball Player of the Week, according to league officials. Girtmon picked up the first conference award of the season following his effort in three Aggie victories this week.

A 6-5 product of The Colony High School near Dallas and a four-year member of the Cameron squad, Girtmon averaged 18.7 points and converted nearly 75 percent of his field goal attempts (23 of 31) last week, as the Aggies opened the season with victories over Mid-America Christian, Abilene Christian and Hardin-Simmons. In Friday's 81-54 win over ACU, Girtmon hit 10-of-15 from the floor to lead all scorers with 26 points. The next afternoon against Hardin-Simmons, Girtmon again led all scorers, hitting 8-of-10 field goal attempts to finish with 17 points. For the week, he also added 3.7 rebounds per game and totaled five assists and five steals.

Cameron (3-0) returns to action this weekend, traveling to Springfield, Mo., for the 15th annual Drury/Pizza Hut Thanksgiving Classic. Coach Garrette Mantle's squad will take on Evangel (Mo.) Friday night at 6 p.m. The Aggies wrap up competition in the event on Saturday, facing host Drury University in a showdown scheduled to tipoff at 8 p.m.
