Head named to Daktronics all-region team

KEARNEY, Neb. (Nov. 23) – Cameron's Jenny Head has been selected to the 2004 Daktronics All-Southwest Region volleyball team, following voting by sports information directors within the region. Head, a 5-6 senior from Grande Prairie, Alberta, was one of only two liberos selected to the team, earning second team all-region honors.

 

Head finished her two-year career at Cameron with four school records, including marks for single-season digs (618 in 2004) and career digs per game (5.085)She finished the 2004 regular season leading all conference players in digs per game, earning Lone Star Conference North Division Libero of the Year honors. Last season, Head was named the LSC North Defensive Player of the Year honors while also earning all-conference second team honorsDespite playing just two seasons with the Aggies, Head finished just 257 digs shy of Cameron's all-time career digs record. She was one of seven players named to the all-tournament team at this year's LSC postseason championship tournament.

 

In all, 12 players were named to the 2004 Daktronics All-Southwest Region volleyball team, including six first-team selections and six second-team honorees. Top-ranked Nebraska-Kearney and No. 10 Fort Hays State led all teams with four players each on the first and second teams. Lone Star Conference champion Abilene Christian had two selections, while Cameron and Mesa State each had one player honored.

 

Junior middle hitter Erin Gudmundson of Nebraska-Kearney and junior libero Kelly Skidmore of Fort Hays State earned first team all-region honors for the second straight season. Gudmundson, the 2004 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year, was also a first-team selection as a freshman in 2002. Also repeating is Nebraska-Kearney senior outside hitter Erin Arnold, a first-team pick this year after earning second-team all-region honors last season.

 

First-team members move onto the national ballot for All-American consideration. This is the fifth year Daktronics has sponsored the Division II volleyball All-American and All-Region teams.
