Aggies top LSC South champ Eastern NM

BOXSCORE >>

PORTALES, N.M. (Dec. 2) - The Cameron men's basketball team held off a second-half charge by Eastern New Mexico, hitting 6-of-8 free throw attempts in the final minute to preserve an 80-74 victory over the two-time defending Lone Star Conference South Division champion Greyhounds Thursday.

The win improved the Aggies to 6-0 on the season, while ENMU fell to 2-3. Cameron will look to go 7-0 for the first time under head coach Garrette Mantle on Saturday, visiting West Texas A&M in LSC crossover action.

Junior guard Eric Moore came off the bench to lead the Aggie scoring effort Thursday night. The 5-11 Fort Worth, Texas, native shared game-high scoring honors with ENMU's Jamaal Hunnicutt, pouring in 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Junior Bam Harmon added 19 for the Aggies, while Arthur Trousdell chipped in 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Cameron led virtually the entire game, hitting 7-of-15 from three-point range in the opening period to build a 41-35 halftime lead. The Aggies extended that lead to as many 15 twice in the second half, before Eastern New Mexico launched a dramatic comeback effort.

Trailing 62-47 with just under nine minutes to play, the Greyhounds launched a 15-0 scoring run to knot the score with 5:36 remaining in the game. Trousdell stopped the bleeding with a jumper at the 4:47 mark, but ENMU's Jason Breland provided just the third lead change of the game with an ensuing three-pointer that put the Greyhounds up 65-64.

After Hunnicutt's jumper tied the score at 67-67, Cameron answered with a 7-0 run that included a bucket and a pair of free throws by Trousdell. Reggie Wallace kept the Greyhounds close with a pair of free throws with 51 seconds left in the game, but the Aggies converted 6-of-8 charity attempts after that to ensure the win.
