Lady Aggie shooting woes continue at WT

CANYON, Texas (Dec. 4) - Cameron's women's basketball team scored just 15 points and shot an icy 12 percent from the field in the first half of a 59-47 loss to 22nd-ranked West Texas A&M on the road Saturday.

The Lady Aggies finished the game with a 27.8 team shooting percentage, as West Texas A&M led from start to finish while dropping Cameron to 1-5 on the season.

Katie Stoll was one of three Lady Aggies to score in double figures for the game. The junior transfer guard connected on 4-of-7 three-point attempts and added a pair of free throws to finish with 14 points. Senior Christina Buben and junior Melissa Steen each chipped in 10. Celeste Stevenson led the Lady Buffs with a game-high 18 points.

Both teams started slowly Saturday, combining for 1-of-18 shooting in the first five minutes of the contest. Cameron missed its first 10 shots from the field, until Steen made it a 4-2 contest with 14:37 left in the opening period.

Cameron's shooting woes continued throughout the half, as the Lady Aggies converted just three field goals before intermission. After Steen's bucket, Buben provided the other two, hitting a three-pointer and converting a traditional three-point play to get Cameron within four at 16-12 with 5:35 left in the half.

But West Texas A&M answered with an 11-1 run to make it a 14-point game just before halftime and never let the lead fall below double-digits after that. Cameron's shooting improved to 41.4 percent in the second half, as Stoll came alive to hit all four of her three-pointers after the break. But the Lady Buff lead surged to as many as 22 and never fell below 13 in the second half.
