Aggies roll past SW Christian, 101-62
BOXSCORE >>
LAWTON, Okla. (Dec. 10) - After suffering its first defeat of the season last weekend, the Cameron men's basketball team rebounded with style Friday night at Aggie Gym. Coach Garrette Mantle emptied the Cameron bench as every Aggie player played at least 10 minutes and scored at least two points in a 101-62 rout of Southwestern Christian University.
It was the first time the Aggies have reached the century mark since opening the 2002-03 season with a 101-58 win over Paul Quinn College.
The win improved the Aggies to 7-1 on the season, while Southwestern Christian fell to 2-13. Cameron will look to get its eighth victory over the season on Saturday, hosting Lone Star Conference crossover rival Midwestern State. Women's action in the doubleheader at Aggie Gym begins at 6 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 8.
Saturday is Cells-U-More Night at Aggie Gym. Fans attending the games will have an opportunity to sign up to compete in a pair of halftime skills contests to win valuable prize packages from Cells-U-More, which features six convenient locations throughout Texoma.
Southwestern Christian hung in early against the Aggies shooting a respectable 48.1 percent from the floor in the first half. But the Aggies had opened up a 19-point lead by halftime, converting a whopping 20 first-half field goals while streaking to a 22-10 rebounding edge by intermission.
The Aggies turned up the heat in the second half, forcing nine Eagle turnovers while shooting nearly 58 percent from the field. Every Cameron player in uniform got into the act, with 14 different Aggies scoring at least two points in the game. None of Cameron's starters spent more than 18 minutes on the court and every player on the roster played at least 10 minutes.
Eric Moore continued his solid play Friday. The Fort Worth, Texas, junior, who averaged 21 points in two Aggie games last week, came off the bench to lead all players in the game with 15 points. The effort pushed Moore ahead of teammate Marcus Girtmon as Cameron's top scorer this season.
Girtmon added 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including two buckets in the first minute of the game, and redshirt freshman Matt Peterson added 11 points and a game-high three blocked shots. Arthur Trousdell was the only other Aggie in double figures, getting 10 points on a perfect shooting night that included a 4-for-4 effort from the field and a 2-for-2 showing at the charity stripe.
