No. 17 Texas A&M-Commerce blasts Aggies, 94-69

COMMERCE, Texas (Jan. 8) - Two days after upsetting third-ranked Southwestern Oklahoma, the Texas A&M-Commerce men's basketball team continued its romp through Lone Star Conference crossover play, handing Cameron its third loss of the season.

It was the second defeat in the last three games for the Aggies, who fell to 10-3 with the 94-69 loss to the 17th-ranked Lions.

Coach Sam Walker's squad won for the sixth straight game, improving to 12-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 against teams from the LSC's North Division. Texas A&M-Commerce shot 55 percent from the field in the game, including a sizzling 61.9 percent (13-21) from three-point range.

The Lions outrebounded Cameron 40-21 and controlled Saturday's game virtually from start to finish. After trading buckets in the early going, A&M-C used a 17-5 run to turn a 9-8 Cameron advantage into an 11-point lead midway through the opening half. The Aggies shot just 5-of-18 from three-point range in the half, including 1-of-5 during the Lions' run, and trailed 48-35 at the half.

The lead quickly grew to 20, as A&M-Commerce opened the second period with a 10-3 surge to make it 58-38 with 15:49 to play. After Chris Fantroy's three-pointer put the Lions up 64-42 at teh 14:41 mark, the A&M-C lead never dipped below 20 points the rest of the way.

Junior center Arthur Trousdell, coming off the bench for just the second time this season, led the Aggies with five rebounds and a game-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Junior Eric Moore was the only other Aggie in double-figures, with 12 points. Senior Marcus Girtmon was held to a season-low seven points.

Reserve forward Brandon Bowie led a group of six A&M-Commerce players in double figures with 15 points. The Lions also got 14 points each from starters Fantroy, Matthew Rager and Jermart Miller.

Cameron concludes LSC crossover play with a pair of home games next week. The Aggies will host Abilene Christian and Angelo State before opening LSC North Division play on Jan. 20, at East Cental.
