Aggies get series sweep over ACU, 105-93
GAME BOXSCORE >>
LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 13) - The high-octane Aggie offense reached the century mark for the fourth time in the last seven games Thursday, posting a 105-93 Lone Star Conference crossover victory over Abilene Christian at Aggie Gym.
The win was the second of the season over the Wildcats for Cameron, which improved to 11-3. ACU fell to 7-7. The Aggies will look to double their win total from last season on Saturday, hosting Angelo State in a contest scheduled to tipoff at 4 p.m. The game has been designated "Take A Kid to the Game Day" at Aggie Gym, with children receiving free admission when accompanied by a paid adult.
Five Cameron players scored in double figures Thursday, led by Eric Moore's 25. Marcus Girtmon added 24 and Arthur Trousdell produced his first double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Abilene Christian, playing without LSC scoring leader Hakim Rasul, got a game-high 33 points from guard David Baxter and 25 off the bench from Mauro Matai.
Coach Garrette Mantle's Aggies jumped out to the early lead Thursday, scoring the first eight points of the contest. That proved to be the largest lead, however, for Cameron until Sean Ormsby gave the Aggies a 36-25 advantage with a three-pointer at the 6:09 mark of the first half. The Aggies got the lead to 11 two other occasions in the opening period before settling for a 49-42 halftime lead.
The Wildcats trailed by just four following a Joe Carr jumper with 16:11 left in the second half. But Cameron answered with a quick 7-0 run, using a three-pointer by Girtmon to extend its lead to 64-53 with 13:25 to play.
But as the Aggies threatened to pull away, Abilene Christian once again fought back into contention. An 11-2 run that began with five straight points by Baxter and ended with a Matai layup on a Baxter assists made it a two-point game at 73-71 with 9:02 to play. But Cameron's defense stiffened, and the Aggies put together a 13-3 run on back-to-back three-pointers by Moore and Girtmon to forge an 87-74 lead with 6:14 left.
From there, the Aggie lead dipped below 10 just once, on a Baxter three-pointer with 2:09 remaining that made it 95-86.
