Aggies stay winless in LSC North
GAME BOXSCORE >>
LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 22) - Cameron's men's basketball team, ranked fifth in the NCAA II South Central Region, suffered its second consecutive loss Saturday. The Aggies (12-5) fell to 0-2 in Lone Star Conference North Division play with an 82-63 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Junior guard Eric Moore led the Aggies with 16 points, scoring in double figures for the 13th consecutive game. But Cameron had no answer for Southeastern forward Eric Babers. Last year's LSC North Freshman of the Year entered the game ranked among the conference leaders in both scoring and rebounding and lived up to the billing, posting game-highs with 28 points and 11 rebounds.
Southeastern (13-4, 2-0) also got 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting from forward Jeremy Brown.
Arthur Trousdell's jumper to start the second half got the Aggies within one at 34-33, but Southeastern never trailed in the second half. The Savages used a 15-3 run midway through the period to build a 15-point advantage and led by 17 on a pair of Babers free throws with 6:36 to play.
Cameron trimmed the lead to 74-62 on a Justin Harris jumper at the 3:45 mark. But Southeastern erased any hope of an Aggie comeback, holding the Aggies without a field goal the rest of the way and finishing the game with an 8-1 run.
Southeastern dominated the frontcourt Saturday, outscoring the Aggies 48-20 on points in the paint. The Savages also held a 21-7 advantage in points off turnovers and a 13-5 lead in second-chance points.
Coach Garrette Mantle's Aggies led on three occasions in the first half. Cameron opened the game with a 2-0 lead on a jumper by Mike Wallace and led 8-7 after a Chris Booth layup with 14:58 left in the opening period.
The Aggies rallied from eight points down on three consecutive three-pointers around the eight-minute mark. Moore's trey put Cameron up 21-20 with 7:05 to play before halftime. Moore later cut the SOSU lead to three, 34-31, with another three-pointer just before the break.
