Cold shooting gives Lady Aggies loss

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Jan. 29) - The Cameron women's basketball team converted just three field goals in the first half and finished 0-for-12 from three-point range, falling to 8-11 overall and 2-2 in Lone Star Conference North Division play with a 56-35 loss to Northeastern State on Saturday.
Coach Dick Halterman's squad will look to rebound on Tuesday, hosting Southwestern Oklahoma State in an LSC North matchup scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m., at Cameron's Aggie Gym.
Cameron shot just 12.5 percent from the field in the opening period and trailed 28-9 at halftime. Team leading scorer Brittany Cooksey, a junior guard from Bristow, was held scoreless for just the second time this season, finishing 0-10 from the field. Junior Katie Stoll, who entered this week leading all Lone Star Conference players in three-pointers made per game, was also scoreless in the game.
Northeastern State (14-5, 4-0 LSC North) hit on four of its first six attempts from the field on Saturday and jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead. Cameron went six minutes without a score until Joneatta Brown ended the drought with a traditional three-point play to make it 9-3 with 13:58 remaining in the first half.
The Lady Reds had their share of problems getting the ball through the rim, as well, in the first period. Cameron trailed by just seven at 16-9 with just over four and a half minutes left in the half. But Brown's jumper in the paint at the 4:44 mark proved the be Cameron's final points of the half as NSU went on a 12-0 run to take a 19-point lead into the locker room.
Northeastern padded its lead in the second half. After Jenna Miller connected on a jumper with 15:15 remaining, the Lady Red lead never dipped below 20. Coach Randy Gipson's squad led by as many as 30, using an Alicia Keys jumper to make it 47-17 near the 11-minute mark, and cruised to the easy win.
Brown and sophomore forward Chelsea Turner led the Lady Aggies with nine points each. Northeastern got 12 points from Keys and 11 points and a game-high seven rebounds from Cara Busson.
