GAME BOXSCORE»
DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 12) - Sophomore Chelsea Turner scored 14 of her team-high 16 points in the second half, leading the Cameron women's basketball team to its third straight Lone Star Conference win Saturday night against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Cameron overcame an 11-point second half deficit, improving to 11-12 overall and 5-3 in conference play with a 59-54 win over the Lady Savages. Southeastern lost its seventh straight league game to fall to 3-20 and 1-7.
Coach Nick Keith's Lady Savages took control in the first half Saturday. Southeastern shot nearly 50 percent from the field in the first half while holding the Lady Aggies to 10-of-31 shooting, including 0-for-6 from three-point range, in the opening period. Jewell Peterson's layup with 5:28 left in the half capped a 10-0 run and had the Lady Savages in command with a 24-14 lead.
Southeastern settled for a nine-point advantage at halftime before extending its lead to 11 early in the second frame. But after Kirbi Wison's layup put SOSU up 37-27 with 14:44 to play, the Lady Aggies came alive.
A Linda Brown layup was followed by five straight points from Turner, as the Lady Aggies closed the gap to just three with 11:41 to play. Katie Stoll completed the comeback with a three-pointer three minutes later that gave Cameron its first lead since the midway point of the first half at 44-43.
From there, the teams traded 6-0 scoring runs before Turner scored four quick points on a bucket and two free throws to put the Lady Aggies up 56-54 with under a minute to play. Southeastern had a chance to tie the score with 23 ticks remaining, but Wilson missed both ends of a two-shot foul and Brittany Cooksey tacked on a free throw to make it a three-point game two seconds later. Southeastern had a bid to tie the score with a three-pointer, but Lauren Martin's shot was off the mark and Melissa Steen collected the rebound and sank both free throws after immediately being fouled to seal the win.
Turner finished as the only Lady Aggie in double figures, but all 10 Cameron players who saw action in the game scored at least two points. Steen and Cooksey shared team-high honors with seven rebounds each, with five of Steen's boards coming on the offensive end of the court. Cameron out-rebounded the Lady Savages 41-33 and limited SOSU to just 1-of-10 shooting from behind the arc in the second half.
