Aggies suffer road loss to UCO

GAME BOXSCORE»

EDMOND, Okla. (Feb. 17) - Lone Star Conference North Division leader Central Oklahoma flexed its offensive muscle on Thursday, using a 23-5 advantage in fast break points and 23 Cameron turnovers to race to a 104-71 victory over the Aggies at UCO's Hamilton Field House.

The loss dropped Coach Garrette Mantle's Aggies to 13-11 overall and 1-8 in LSC North play. UCO won its fifth straight, and 11th in the Bronchos' last 12 games, to improve to 19-5 and 8-1.

Cameron started strong Thursday, scoring the first six points of the game and hitting five of its first six shots from the field to build an early 11-2 advantage. The Bronchos answered with a quick 9-0 run to knot the score, but Maurice Cubit's layup with 13:14 left in the opening period had the Aggies on top 16-13.

But the Aggies went the next four and a half minutes without a point and the Bronchos again launched a big scoring run - this time a 15-0 spurt - to take the lead for good. Muyi Sosanya capped the run, taking a defensive rebound coast to coast for a layup that made it 28-16 Bronchos with 8:46 left in the half.

From there, the UCO lead never dipped below double digits, as the Bronchos increased their lead to as many as 44 points in the second half. The Bronchos eclipsed the century mark on aKantrell Gaddis layup with 3:51 to play and didn't score after Joe Kennerly's three-pointer at the 2:34 mark. The Aggies managed to end the game on a 9-0 scoring run, but it was too little, too late.

Eric Moore led the Aggies with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Arthur Trousdell was 6-of-10 from the floor for 12 points, while Maurice Cubit and Matt Peterson chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Despite the loss, the Aggies can still assure themselves of the team's first winning season under Mantle with a win in any of their three remaining contests. Cameron will take its first shot its first winning record since 1998 on Saturday, hosting Northeastern State in an LSC North contest scheduled to tipoff at 4 p.m.
