Fort Hays keeps Lady Aggies winless

UPDATED STATISTICS»

LAWTON, Okla. (Feb. 21) - Fort Hays State pitchers scattered eight hits and racked up 13 strikeouts Monday, posting a pair of 2-0 victories in the season home-opener for the Cameron softball team.

The losses marked the third and fourth shutouts this season against the Lady Aggies, who fell to 0-8 on the year.

Cameron will look to crack into the win column on Wednesday, hosting Oklahoma Panhandle State in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., weather permitting.

The Lady Aggies had opportunities to cash in runs in both contests Monday. Cameron stranded six runners on base in each game, but never had more than one hit in a single inning on the day.

Both teams were locked in a scoreless tie entering the seventh inning of Game 1. Kelly Holden continued her solid pitching, allowing just two hits through the first six frames. But Fort Hays got a leadoff double by Lindsey Boyer. Boyer later scored when failed to execute a run-down situation between third and home after Boyer got caught too far off the bag on a fielder's choice. Michelle Reed added a pinch-hit RBI single later in the inning to close out the scoring.

The Tigers got all the runs they would need early in the nightcap. Fort Hays took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Emily Askins in the first and added one more on Jessie Hock's sacrifice fly in the second. Cameron left one runner on base in all but one inning of the game, including two in scoring position at second base.

Holden (0-3) took the loss in Game 1 for the Lady Aggies, scattering five hits and striking out three. Lindsay Williams (0-3) allowed just four hits  and struk out three while taking the loss in the second contest.

Casey Seabolt, Nicole Fleming and Bridgette Davis each had two hits on the day for the Lady Aggies. Davis started Game 2 at second base and went 2-for-2 at the plate with a sacrifice bunt, as well.
