Lady Aggies end losing skid with win over OBU

UPDATED STATISTICS»

LAWTON, Okla. (March 1) - The Cameron softball team came up just short in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with Oklahoma Baptist. But the Lady Aggies rallied in the nightcap, earning a series split while collecting their first victory of the season at Cameron Field.

Jen Morse went 2-for-4 in the second game with a homer and three RBI, as the Lady Aggies improved to 1-13. OBU fell to 3-2. Cameron will look to add to its win total on Wednesday, hosting Bacone College in a doubleheader expected to begin at 1 p.m., at Cameron Field.

Oklahoma Baptist jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2, tagging Lady Aggie starter Lindsay Williams for four hits in the frame.

But Cameron answered in the bottom half of the inning. After a leadoff groundout bout Casey Seabolt, Morse belted a shot over the left field fence. Two batters later, Melinda Farrow followed a Stephanie Bour walk with an RBI double to left center, knotting the score at 2-2.

The Lady Aggies then broke the game open in second, getting three runs on just two hits. After walks to Vanessa Rodriguez and Seabolt, Morse ripped a two-run double to right and later scored on Farrow's single to right-center.

From there, Williams settled in, recording five strikeouts against just one walk in the game. The Lawton senior allowed just four hits after the third inning while improving her mound record to 1-4.

Tuesday's first game needed an extra inning to decide the winner. OBU again held a 2-0 lead in the game until Farrow homered to left field with a runner on to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Neither team scored in the seventh and the game went to international tie-breaker rules, with a runner placed a second base to begin the inning. Oklahoma Baptist took advantage, using a three-run two-out rally that included a two-run homer by Katy Thurber off Cameron starter Jessica Hutton (0-4).

The Lady Aggies scored a run on a two-out RBI single by Morse in the bottom half of the eighth, but couldn't match the Bison in dropping their 13th consecutive game to start the season. Hutton struck out three and didn't walk a batter, but allowed five earned runs in the complete-game effort.

Farrow and Morse each finished the day with three hits for the Lady Aggies. Both players also collected four RBI.
