Lady Aggies get second win

UPDATED STATISTICS»

LAWTON, Okla. (March 1) - Casey Seabolt's RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth propelled the Cameron softball team to a 2-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader against Bacone College Wednesday at Cameron Field.

The three-bagger was one of just four hits in the game for the Lady Aggies, but pitcher Jessica Hutton allowed just five hits in the game and struck out five, helping Cameron improve to 2-14 with the doubleheader split against the Warriors. Bacone won the first contest, 4-0.

Cameron fell behind in the nightcap when Bianca Oakley's RBI single in the top of the fourth put the Warriors up 1-0. But Melinda Farrow answered for the Lady Aggies, ripping a one-out homer to left in the bottom half of the frame.

The Lady Aggies took the lead in the fifth. Nicole Fleming singled to left-center before Seabolt went to the opposite field with a fastball offering from Bacone's Megan Melacon, scoring Fleming and giving the Lady Aggies a 2-1 advantage.

Hutton (1-4) took over from there, retiring nine of the next 10 Bacone batters she faced to get the mound victory.

Bacone won Wednesday's first contest with strong pitching and an opportunistic offense. The Warriors had six hits in the game, while capitalizing on three Cameron errors.

Bacone got a run in the second when Oakley stole third and scored on a Cameron throwing error. The Warriors then broke the game open with three runs on four hits in the third inning off Cameron starter Kelly Holden (0-6).

Cameron's offense, meanwhile, struggled against a trio of Warrior pitchers. Vanessa Rodriguez allowed a leadoff single to Seabolt in the bottom of the first, then teamed with Melacon and Jessica Dean to retire the next 20 consecutive Cameron hitters. After Seabolt's single, the Lady Aggies went without a baserunner until a two-out walk to Farrow in the bottom of the seventh.

Next up for the Lady Aggies is a Thursday doubleheader with Oklahoma Panhandle State. First pitch at Cameron Field is set for 2 p.m.
