Cameron selects Texas native to lead volleyball
TeAna Crutcher becomes third Lady Aggie coach in Division II era
LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron University officials have announced the selection of TeAna Crutcher as the school’s next women’s volleyball head coach. A graduate assistant last season at NCAA Division I South Dakota State University, Crutcher follows longtime Lady Aggie head coach Kim Vinson, who retired her coaching duties at the end of the 2004 season. A native of El Paso, Texas, Crutcher joins the Lady Aggie staff after helping lead SDSU to a 22-12 record in its first season of NCAA Division I competition in 2004. The Jackrabbits had five players earn all-independent honors last season, including first team selection Kim Bostrom and newcomer of the year Kristina Martin. As a graduate assistant the past two seasons at SDSU, Crutcher served as the Jackrabbits’ Academic Coordinator and Travel Coordinator, and was instrumental in recruiting quality players from a six-state area. "I am excited and ready to get started," Crutcher said of beginning her head coaching career at Cameron. "Kim has laid down an excellent foundation in building a quality program. We have a good core of returning players next season and I’m looking forward to building on the success our program has had." In addition to her work at SDSU, Crutcher also has served the past two years as assistant coach for the North Country Region 16s High Performance club team in South Dakota and was Assistant Director of the High Plains Elite Volleyball Club. She also served as Assistant Director of the SDSU Summer Volleyball Camps, providing camp instruction while also coordinating the camp registration and housing. "We are truly excited to have TeAna leading our women’s volleyball program," Cameron Athletic Director Sam Carroll said. "She has been successful both as a player and a coach and we look forward to her continuing the successful tradition of Lady Aggie volleyball that has been established under Kim Vinson." As a player, Crutcher was a two-time All-Southland Conference selection as an outside hitter at the University of Louisiana-Monroe before transferring to New Mexico State University prior to her junior year. In two seasons at New Mexico State, where she played under former Cameron assistant and current NMSU head coach Michael Jordan, Crutcher helped the Aggies to a pair of Sun Belt Conference West Division championships. She earned academic all-conference recognition both seasons at NMSU and was a member of the Aggie women’s track team, as well, competing in the throwing events. Crutcher also served as an instructor in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation department at South Dakota State. She earned a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology from New Mexico State in 2003, and recently completed requirements for a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from South Dakota State. Cameron finished the 2004 season with an overall record of 20-12, advancing to the championship match of the Lone Star Conference tournament. Six Lady Aggie players received All-LSC North Division recognition, including first team selections Nicole Reinhart, Daktronics All-Southwest Region libero Jenny Head and LSC North Player of the Year Morgan Meyer.
