Aggies at No. 15 in GCAA coaches poll

NORMAN, Okla. (March 4) - The Cameron University men's golf team remains among the top teams in NCAA Division II, according to this week's GCAA/Bridgestone Top 25 Coaches Poll, released Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Coach Jerry Hrnciar's Aggies are tabbed 15th in the nation, one of three Lone Star Conference schools listed in the poll.

Cameron slipped one spot from its final fall ranking of 14, despite posting an impressive come-from-behind victory in this week’s St. Edward’s Spring Invitational in Austin, Texas. The Aggies rallied from nine strokes back entering the final round to defeat second-round leader Central Oklahoma by nine strokes, winning the team title in the tournament by two strokes over host St. Edwards. Central Oklahoma, meanwhile, jumped seven spots to No. 4 in the nation, despite the third-place finish. Northeastern State, the only other LSC school in the poll, slipped one spot to No. 22.

South Carolina-Aiken continued its hold on the top spot in the poll despite its seven-tournament winning streak being snapped by a tied for sixth finish at the AASU/Southbridge Pirate Invitational.  The Pacers earned eight first-place votes to stay at No. 1.

Cal State-Bakersfield stayed in second while West Florida moved up one spot to third. Hawaii-Hilo, which was ranked second in the final fall poll, dropped from second to sixth despite receiving one first-place tally.  Seventh-ranked Rollins and No. 8 Georgia College & State University moved into The top 10, followed by Western Washington and UC-San Diego.

Columbus State made the biggest move in the poll, leaping 14 spots to No. 11.  Delta State and Grand Canyon also took big climbs in the poll - up six spots to Nos. 12 and 13, respectively.  Saint Martin's fell from the Top 10 to No. 14, followed by Cameron, Barry, Valdosta State, Nova Southeastern and Armstrong Atlantic StateFlorida Gulf Coast suffered the biggest drop - plummeting 10 places to No. 20.

Florida Southern enters the poll at No. 21.  Northeastern State, Cal. State-Stanislaus, St. Mary's (Texas) and Chico State complete the top 25. Coker fell from the ranking.

The GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division II GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll will be released March 25.
