Cooksey, Moore earn All-LSC honors

RICHARDSON, Texas (March 7) - Cameron basketball players Brittany Cooksey and Eric Moore have been recognized for their outstanding effort during the 2004-05 season.

Both were named to this year's Lone Star Conference all-conference teams on Monday, following voting by LSC North Division head coaches. Cooksey earned first team honors, while Moore was a second team selection.

A 5-9 junior guard from Bristow, Cooksey earned her third straight LSC postseason honors. In 2002, she was named the LSC North Division Freshman of the Year and earned second team all-conference honors as a sophomore last season. This year, Cooksey led the Lady Aggies with 13.7 points per game while adding a 5.3 rebounding average. She also led the team and ranked among the conference leaders in free throw shooting percentage, connecting on 98-of-115 (.852) charity attempts.

Cooksey also led the Lady Aggies in assists (67) and steals (40) and was a two-time LSC North Player of the Week honoree.

Moore also led his team in scoring this season, finishing the regular season fourth in the league with a 17.0 average. The Fort Worth, Texas, product and transfer from Richland College also ranked among he LSC leaders with a .404 shooting percentage from three-point range and finished second on the team in both assists (62) and steals (33).

Moore was named the LSC North Player of the Week on Jan. 16, after averaging 22 points a game in Cameron victories over Abilene Christian and Angelo State. Moore's effort helped the Aggies more than double their win total from the previous season and produced Cameron's first winning season since 1998.

In addition to Cooksey and Moore, three other Cameron players received postseason recognition by league coaches. Senior Christina Buben earned all-conference honorable mention honors on the women's side, while senior Marcus Girtmon and junior Arthur Trousdell were given honorable mention on the men's team.

After struggling to a 1-6 start, Cameron's women's basketball team finished the season with an 11-16 record under third-year head coach Dick Halterman. The Aggie men were ranked as high as No. 5 in the NCAA Division II South Central regional rankings this season and produced a 15-12 mark — the first winning season for the team under sixth-year head coach Garrette Mantle.
