Lady Aggies top Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. (March 10) - The Cameron women's tennis team ran its record to 7-2 on the season Thursday, posting a 6-3 victory over Southern Nazarene in a makeup of a match rained out earlier this season.

The Lady Aggies took two of three doubles matches and won four of six singles bouts to get the victory in a tuneup for Sunday's showdown with regionally ranked St. Edward's.

Southern Nazarene standout Larikah Russel accounted for two of the Crimson Storm's three points Thursday. The top-ranked singles player in the NAIA won a straight-set victory over Carolina Vera-Vera in the No. 1 singles match and teamed with Dasha Ivanova to win at No. 1 doubles. Ivanova also won her singles match, dispatching Cameron's Paulina Trujillo.

But the Lady Aggies dominated the rest of the match. Taylor Ivie and Sandra Leigh King posted an 8-0 shutout in the No. 2 doubles match and Trujillo teamed with Mehgan Goforth to win at No. 3 doubles.

King won a super-set tie-breaker over Jana Maker in the No. 3 singles match, while Ivie, Goforth and Marianne Reeves each won singles bouts in straight sets.

Next up for the Cameron tennis team is a trip to Texas for four matches over spring break, beginning with a Sunday contest against St. Edward's. Both the Aggies and Lady Aggies will continue on to San Antonio on Monday to face Incarnate Word before taking on St. Mary's on Tuesday. The trip concludes with a Wednesday visit to Dallas Baptist.
