Aggies trade wins with Tarleton State

LAWTON, Okla. (March 11) - The Cameron baseball team racked up 26 hits and 22 runs Friday, rallying from a Game 1 loss to forge a doubleheader split with Tarleton State at McCord Field.
Each team jumped out to a 5-1 lead in their respective victories, as Tarleton State took the first game 10-8 and the Aggies won the nightcap, 14-6. The teams will meet again Saturday at McCord Field, beginning at 1 p.m.
Tarleton State (9-11) grabbed the lead with a four-run fifth inning in Game 1. The Texans sent six batters to the plate before Paul Muse's bases-loaded triple made it 5-1. Derrick Mihecoby answered for the Aggies, cutting the lead to 5-3 with a two-run homer to left-center. But Tarleton State added three more in the sixth, including a pair of runs on bases-loaded walks.
Corey Stang kept the Aggies close with a two-run triple in the sixth, helping spark a four-run Cameron inning. But Tarleton State once again held the Aggies at bay, scoring twice in the top of the seventh to make it 10-7. The Aggies pushed across a run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI infield single by Trey Chambers, but the game ended on a controvertial double-play.
Ryan Bengert (1-2) took the loss for the Aggies, allowing four earned runs on just three hits in four innings of work. Bengert, who stuggled with consistency early in the game, walked six.
The Aggie bats were once again active in the second contest. After collecting 12 hits in the first game, Cameron racked up another 14 in the nightcap.
After spotting the Texans a first-inning run on a defensive throwing error, the Aggies jumped on Tarleton State starter Jeremy Roberts. Roberts gave up eight hits and seven earned runs in just over three innings of work before yielding to three other TSU pitchers.
Cameron plated two in the second and added three more in the a third inning rally that included a two-run homer by Stang.
Tarleton State closed the gap with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but Cameron answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and opened the game up with a five-run surge in the sixth.
L.J. Willis (4-1) went the distance on the mound for the Aggies in the nightcap, scattering 11 hits while striking out four.
Stang finished the day 4-for-7 at the plate with four RBI. Derrick Mihecoby was 5-for-7 with four RBI, as well. Patton went 3-for-4 in Game 2 with two doubles, a triple and five RBI.
