Southeastern gets softball sweep

UPDATED STATISTICS»

DURANT, Okla. (March 11) - A day after taking both games of a doubleheader against the Cameron softball team in Lawton, Southeastern Oklahoma completed the home-and-home sweep Friday. The Lady Savages outlasted the Lady Aggies in extra innings both games, winning 3-2 and 2-1.

Cameron (4-18, 0-4 LSC North) will look to get its first Lone Star Conference North Division victory on Sunday, as the Lady Aggies open a four-game series at Northeastern State.

The Lady Aggies got on the board first in Friday's opening contest, getting an RBI single by Vanessa Rodriguez in the first to make it 1-0. Southeastern took the lead in the second on RBI singles by Elicia Marquez and Kyle Ferguson, but Melinda Farrow tied the score in the sixth on a solo homer to left field.

Neither team scored again until the ninth inning, when Rachel Sill belted a two-out RBI double off Cameron starter Lindsay Williams to end the game.

Williams (2-5) scattered 12 hits and struck out three while working the complete game.

Southeastern got the early lead in Game 2, capitalizing on a Cameron error to score an unearned run in the first.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the seventh inning. Jessica Hutton reached base and advanced to second on an SOSU throwing error. Williams then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Hutton over to third before another Lady Savage error allowed Hutton to cross the plate.

But just as in the first contest, Southeastern pulled out a key hit when it was needed. After Rachel Lynn reached on a fielder's choice and stole second, Beth Farrar laced a two-out double to right field, scoring Lynn to end the game.

Hutton (1-6) went the distance on the mound for Cameron, allowing no earned runs while striking out two. Hutton also did not walk a batter in the game, scattering 10 Southeastern hits. Christina Cearley got the win for the Lady Savages, allowing just two hits and no earned runs while striking out 12.

Cameron finished the day with just six hits at the plate. Farrow and Casey Seabolt each had two hits.
