TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (March 13) - Senior Lindsay Williams collected her third mound victory of the season and Jessica Hutton recorded the team's first save, as the Cameron softball squad rallied for a doubleheader split Sunday at Northeatern State.
The Lady Aggies moved to 5-19 overall and 1-5 in Lone Star Conference North Division play, losing the first game 2-1 before posting a 4-3 win in the nightcap. Northeastern State (13-16, 4-5 LSC North) will host Cameron again Monday, concluding the four-game series with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Williams held the Lady Reds in check much of Sunday's second contest, allowing just three hits through the first six innings.
The Cameron offense, meanwhile, built a 4-0 lead. Williams and Jen Morse rapped RBI singles to fuel a three-run third inning for the Lady Aggies, and Cameron picked up an unearned run in the sixth.
But Northeastern staged a late rally in the seventh. After Krystal Sanders reached on an error, the Lady Reds put together a string of hits, including a two-out RBI double by Brooke Smith to pull NSU within a run.
Shae Moore followed with a single that moved Smith to third before Hutton came on in relief of Williams to get Venessa Cook to fly out to end the game.
Williams (3-5) finished with two strikeouts and two earned runs on seven hits. Melinda Farrow led the Lady Aggies at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Cameron also got a strong pitching performance in Sunday's opening contest. Kelly Holden went the distance on the mound and recorded five strikeouts with no walks. Holden (1-8) allowed just one earned run on an infield single in the first inning.
The Lady Reds went up 2-0 in the fourth, capitalizing on a Cameron error and two wild pitches. Cameron cut the lead in half when Vanessa Rodriguez led off the sixth inning with a double to left field and later scored on an NSU error. But the Lady Aggies stranded a pair of baserunners in the seventh.
