AMARILLO, Texas (April 5) - Travis Lovins collected his fourth consecutive individual Top 5 finish, but it wasn't enough for the Cameron men's golf team at the weather-shortened West Texas A&M/Subway Invitational at LaPaloma Golf Club.
Lovins, a junior from Canadian, Texas, fired a one-over total of 143 in the event, which was trimmed to two rounds due to cold temperatures, rain and wind on Tuesday, as the Aggies finished in sixth place in the team standings.
Senior Nic Ware also finished the tournament at one-over, but played unattached and was not included in the Aggies' team score in the tournament. Senior Ryan King was the only other Aggie among the individual leaders, finishing in a tie for 14th with a two-round total of 148 (+6).
Junior Brian Adams finished in a tie for 30th at 153 and Owen Mahaffey tied for 45th with a 159. Lawton senior Kolby Seals was forced to withdraw due to injury in Monday's second round.
Host West Texas A&M won the team title with a combined score of 585 (+17). Abilene Christian was next, three strokes off the pace set by the Buffs at 588. Western New Mexico and East Central tied for third, 10 strokes out of the lead.
Individually, Abilene Christian's Matt Samples captured medalist honors. Samples shot a two-over 73 in Monday's opening round before rallying for a tournament-low 68 in the afternoon round to finish at 141 (-1).
