Cameron clobbers Northeastern in seven

(updated statistics temporarily unavailable)

LAWTON, Okla. (April 10) - John Herbert collected three hits and five RBI, leading another impressive offensive performance from the Cameron baseball team Sunday at McCord Field.

Coach Todd Holland's Aggies (23-12, 9-1 LSC North) produced 15 hits and 15 RBI to post a run-rule-shortened 15-3 victory over Northeastern State. Cameron will look to stay on top of the Lone Star Conference North Division standings on Wednesday, visiting East Central University for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Cameron hitters pounded Northeastern State pitching from the start, racing to an 8-0 lead with eight hits through the first two innings. Cody Brooks' two-RBI double was one of five straight run-scoring hits for the Aggies in a six-run second inning.

Northeastern State (18-23, 2-8 LSC North) scored twice in the fourth on a two-run homer by Jason Arrowood, but the Aggies responded with seven unanswered runs over the next two innings. Cameron scored five times in a fifth inning that included the ejection of NSU head coach Sergio Espinal and back-to-back bases-loaded walks as the Redmen resorted to two pitching changes in the inning.

Northeastern added an unearned run in the top of the sixth, but it wasn't enough to avoid being run-ruled in the game, which was scheduled for nine innings.

Ryan Totte (3-0) picked up the complete-game victory for Cameron on the mound. The Lawton sophomore allowed just two earned runs on six hits and struck out six.

At the plate, Herbert led the Aggie offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with five RBI. Five other Aggies recorded two hits in the game, including Rodney DeLong's 2-for-3, 3-RBI effort. Eight of Cameron's nine batters in the game got at least one hit.
