DURANT, Okla. (April 17) - Southeastern Oklahoma State completed a weekend sweep of the Cameron baseball team Sunday in Lone Star Conference North Division action at The Ballpark in Durant.
The Savages, who rallied in the bottom of the seventh of both games to pick up wins Saturday, posted a run-rule shortened 19-6 win over the Aggies on Sunday. The losses dropped Cameron to 24-16 overall and 10-5 in the LSC North.
Cameron got out to a 1-0 lead on John Herbert's RBI double down the left field line in the first inning of Sunday's contest. But Southeastern roared back with nin unanswered runs over the first three innings to take command. The Savages plated four runs in the first, capitalizing on four hits and one Aggie error, then added three runs in the second on three hits and one error.
The Aggies began to chip away, using an RBI double by Corey Stang and an RBI single by Trey Chambers in the fourth to pull within sixt at 9-3. But any thoughts of an Aggie comeback were quickly dashed, as Southeastern racked up six more runs in the bottom half of the inning and scored three more in the fifth to go up 18-3.
The lopsided loss put an exclamation point on a disasterous weekend for the Aggies, who entered the Southeastern series atop the Lone Star Conference North Division standings. Cameron held late leads over the Savages in both games of a Saturday doubleheader, only to see the Savages win each game with seventh-inning heroics.
Southeastern used a pair of unearned runs following a Cameron error to come back from a 5-3 deficit in the seventh inning to win Game 1, then got a two-RBI single by Sean Cawood in the bottom of the seventh of Game 2 to post an 11-10 win.
