Culhane named volleyball assistant
LAWTON, Okla. (June 20) - Cameron University head women's volleyball coach TeAna Crutcher has selected Molly Culhane to serve as the Lady Aggies' graduate assistant coach. In addition to assisting with daily operation of the Cameron women's volleyball program, Culhane will assist Crutcher with on-court coaching and the organization and implementation of team practices and training. "We're very excited to have Molly join our staff," Crutcher said. "She has been a successful player throughout her career and we're confident the dedication, desire and attitude she displayed as a player will carry over as she continues her coaching career with the Lady Aggies." A native of Lincoln, Neb., Culhane was an all-conference setter last season at Dakota Wesleyan University, earning second team All-Great Plains Athletic Conference recognition for the third consecutive year. She collected 1,289 assists as a senior in 2004, averaging better than 10 assists per game. She also collected 257 digs and registered 60 kills for the Tigers. Culhane finished her career second on DWU's all-time assists list, dishing out 5,169 during her four-year career. Culhane was voted Most Valuable Player by her teammates following the 2004 season and was a two-year captain for the Tigers. She also spent two years as the women's volleyball representative on the DWU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was part of the 2003 DWU team that received academic recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. As a prep, Culhane helped Lincoln's Pius X High School to a pair of state tournament appearances, including the 1998 Nebraska Class B state championship. In addition to her playing experience, Culhane also joins the Cameron program with several years of coaching to her credit. She previously served as head coach of the South Dakota Juniors 161 club team and worked as an instructor at Pius X summer volleyball camps. Culhane also worked with youth volleyball players, coaching children in grades 5-6 at the Mitchell (S.D.) Recration Center. Cameron captured its fifth Lone Star Conference North Division title since 1998 last season, finishing with an overall record of 20-12. The team overcame an 0-6 start to the season, finishing 20-6 the rest of the way. Half of Cameron's 12 losses last season came against teams ranked among the AVCA Top 25. The Lady Aggies advanced to the championship match of the 2004 LSC postseason tournament. Six Cameron players received All-LSC North Division recognition, including first team selections Nicole Reinhart, Daktronics All-Southwest Region libero Jenny Head and LSC North Player of the Year Morgan Meyer.
