Lady Aggies add Bixby standout

LAWTON, Okla. (Aug. 3) – Cameron University women’s golf coach Rick Goodwin has added another state product to the first-ever Lady Aggie roster. Bixby (Okla.) High School graduate Devri Morgan is the latest state player to commit to join the Lady Aggies for their inaugural season in 2005-06.

An All-State selection as a senior last season at BHS, Morgan has collected several top finishes during her career, including the individual title at the 2004 Claremore Zebra invitational and a second-place showing in the Junior Division President’s flight of the Tulsa World Golf Championships. She also finished second at the LaFortune Junior Tournament and the Bailey Ranch Junior Tournament in 2004 and was among the top five individuals in the 2003 South Central Section Junior Tour.

Academically, Morgan graduated as valedictorian at Bixby High School this spring, receiving numerous awards for her performance in the classroom. She was presented with the President’s Education Award and the Bixby Educational Endowment Foundation Academic Excellence Award. A three-year member of the National Honor Society at BHS, Morgan also appeared on the President’s Honor Roll both semesters last year at Tulsa Community College as she gained college credit while still in high school.

“We’re definitely excited to have a student-athlete like Devri joining our team,” Goodwin said. “We are building a women’s golf program that is dedicated to competing at a high level while also maintaining high academic standards and I have no doubt Devri will be able to help us reach those goals.”

The Cameron University women’s golf team will begin competition this fall in the NCAA Division II as a member of the Lone Star Conference. Six other schools in the 15-member league also support women’s golf: Central Oklahoma, Northeastern State, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce and West Texas A&M.
