Lady Aggies finish 11th in first-ever event
MUSKOGEE, Okla. (Sept. 20) - Head Coach Rick Goodwin and the Cameron University women's golf team completed thier first-ever tournament on Tuesday, finishing 11th among the 16 team participating in the Northeastern State Univeristy Women's Golf Classic at Cobblestone Creek Golf Club near Muskogee.
Cameron shaved five strokes off its team score from Monday's opening round, posting a 333 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 671.
Freshman Lauren Gonzales and junior Krystle McCorgary paced the Lady Aggies on Tuesday. McCorgary a transfer from Pratt (Kan.) Community College carded the low round of the tournament for the Lady Aggies with an eight-over 80, while Lawton's Gonzales carded an 82 to finish tied for 30th individually at the event.
Sophomore Laura Madden added an 85 for Cameron, while freshmen Renee Breeze and Devri Morgan each shot 86. Sophomore Jennifer Madden, playing unattached, posted a final-round 87.
Western Washington came away with the team title at the event. The Vikings, who entered the final round with a two-shot lead over Drury, fired a 303 on the final 18 holes to win by six strokes over the Lady Panthers.
Drury's Tonya Choate claimed medalist honors with a pair of 74s to finish one shot better than Western Washington's Katja Trygg. Katy Williams of St. Edward's had the tournament's low round on Tuesday with a one-under 71.
