Aggie golfers at No. 14 in national golf rankings

NORMAN, Okla. (Sept. 23) – After finishing in the top three in each of its first two tournaments, including a season-opening team victory two weeks ago, the Cameron University men’s golf team finds itself in familiar territory. Coach Jerry Hrnciar’s Aggies are once again listed among the top NCAA Division II golf teams in the nation, with the release of this week’s Golf Coaches Association of America Top 25 poll.

Cameron is ranked No. 14 in this week’s coaches poll, which was released Friday by GCAA officials. The Aggies collected 158 points in the poll, finishing just one point behind 13th-ranked Columbus State.

Two-time defending national champion South Carolina-Aiken received 14 of 15 possible first-place votes to retain the No. 1 ranking the team has held since the final poll of the 2003-04 season. The Pacers were followed by Cal State-Bakersfield and Rollins, which picked up the remaining first-place nod. Armstrong Atlantic State and Western Washington rounded out the Top 5.

Cameron, which won the season-opening Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate on Sept. 13, before finishing third at this week’s The Territory Classic, will return to action on Oct. 3-4. Hrnciar and the Aggies will travel to Springfield, Mo., to take part in the annual Drury Invitational.
