Aggies to raise funds for hurricane relief
LAWTON, Okla. (Oct. 1) - The Cameron University athletic department is joining the throngs of individuals and groups worldwide who are pouring out support to victims of the recent hurricanes that battered the gulf region.
This month, Cameron student-athletes and coaches will sell silicone KARE bands, reminder bracelets designed to promote unity and awareness, at a cost of $2 each. One hundred percent of the money raised through the sale of these stylish purple-and-green bands will be donated to the hurricane relief effort.
"Though we were fortunate not to be directly affected by the recent hurricanes that have devastated the gulf region, I think everyone who has seen the destruction left in their wake has been affected in some way," Cameron Athletic Director Jim Jackson said. "Helping raise money for the relief effort is just a small way Cameron Athletics can lend its support to all of those who have experienced loss through these tragic events."
KARE - short for "Katrina Relief" - bands can be purchased by contacting any Cameron University student-athlete or coach. The bracelets also are available at the Cameron Athletics main office or by calling (580) 581-2460. In addition, bands will be available for purchase at Cameron home athletic events, beginning with Thursday's women's volleyball home-opener against Texas A&M-Commerce.
Supporters of the KARE campaign include Reminderband, makers of the KARE bands, along with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and JetBlue Airways. For more information on KARE bands, visit www.uskares.org.
