Lady Aggies in sixth at St. Edward’s Invitational

BASTROP, Texas (Oct. 3) – Lawton’s Laura Madden fired an opening-round 82 to lead the Cameron women’s golf team to a solid showing in first-day action at the St. Edward’s Fall Invitational Monday at ColoVista Country Club near Austin. Madden finished the day tied for 12th individually, while Coach Rick Goodwin’s Lady Aggies sat in sixth place among the 14 teams competing in the event after turning in a team score of 342.

Lauren Gonzales and Renee Breeze also came in among the Top 25 individuals in the tournament. Gonzales shot 43-43 on the par-72, 6,112-yard loop to post an 86, while Breeze went 42-46 to tie Gonzalez at 14-over. Krystle McCorgary shot an 88, while Devri Morgan had the throw-away score for the Lady Aggies with a 95. Jennifer Madden, playing unattached, led all medalists in the opening round, touring the course with a 93.

St. Mary’s University enters Tuesday’s final round with a four-shot lead over Tarleton State in the team standings. The Rattlers, bolstered by a pair of 77s from Jessica Harbin and Elizabeth Reid, posted a team score of 320. Host St. Edward’s is third at 329, followed by Texas A&M-Commerce at the St. Edward’s junior varsity squad tied for fourth at 340.
