ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 7) - Cameron grabbed the early lead in both games but couldn't hold on, dropping both ends of a softball doubleheader at Abilene Christian on Tuesday. Coach Brent Shaw's squad fell to 0-7 on the season, losing by scores of 6-4 and 16-7.

Cameron racked up 20 hits on the day, but surrendered 24 hits to the host Wildcats, who improved to 4-3.

The Lady Aggies got off to a solid start on Tuesday, plating runs in the second and third innings of Game 1. Cameron manufactured a run on three hits in the second before Stephanie Bour scored on a sacrifice fly by Judy Hart in the third to make it 2-0 Lady Aggies.

But ACU stormed back, capitalizing on a Cameron error and a three-run homer by Samantha Borgeson in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. The Wildcats extended the lead to four runs with two more in the sixth on a two-run double by Nicole Deel.

Cameron threatened a comeback in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Bour and a Stephanie Davis sacrifice fly. But Sarah Vidalin earned the save for ACU, striking out Bethany Stefinsky to end the game.

The Aggies raced to a 5-1 advantage early in Tuesday's nightcap. After the teams traded runs in the first, Cameron erupted for four runs on five hits in the top of the sescond. Bour doubled in a pair of runs and later scored on a Melinda Farrow sacrifice, putting the Lady Aggies in command.

Abilene Christian stormed back, however, in the bottom half of the frame. The Wildcats followed a pair of Cameron errors with a pair of home runs, incuding a three-run shot by Jessica Johnson, to score eight unearned runs in a nine-run outburtst that made it 10-5. ACU tacked on another run in the third and blew the game open with a six-run fourth that led to an eventual run-rule after Cameron failed to score in the top of the fifth.

Shaw's crew will have little time to dwell on its rough start, as the Lady Aggies are scheduled to travel to Canyon, Texas, to take part in this weekend's West Texas A&M Invitational. Cameron will play six games over a three-day span, beginning with a Friday morning showdown with Fort Hays State.

Cameron's first home game is scheduled for Feb. 21, against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
