Softball gets split with Southeastern

(Statistics temporarily unavailable)

DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 25) - With action at the annual Lone Star Conference First Pitch Invitational rained out on Saturday, the Cameron softball team moved camp to Durant for an unscheduled doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Lady Aggies dropped the first game 7-0, but rallied in the nightcap to post a 6-3 victory.

The win improved Coach Brent Shaw's squad to 9-12 on the season.

Cameron jumped on SOSU starter Jami McAdoo in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. The Lady Aggies loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a Southeastern error before Melinda Farrow cleaned the bases with a 3-RBI triple. Bethany Stefinsky then plated Farrow with a sacrifice fly and the Lady Aggies led 4-0.

Southeastern answered with three runs in the bottom half of the first inning, but the Lady Aggies' 4-3 lead held until the sixth, when Cameron extended its advantage with a pair of runs.

Jen Morse led the inning off with a single off SOSU reliever Christina Cearley and moved to second on a wild pitch. A Casey Seabolt single moved Morse to third. Then Morse beat a throw to the plate on an infield grounder by Shelby Davis that also moved Seabolt to third. After an intentional walk to Megan Young, Farrow singled in Seabolt to make it 6-3.

Farrow finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, while Seabolt went 2-for-2. Stefinsky picked up the mound victory, while Jessica Hutton earned her third save of the season. Hutton, who was named the Lone Star Conference North Division Pitcher of the Week on Friday following her performance at last week's ACU Invitational, entered the game with one out in the fourth with the Lady Aggies nursing a 4-3 lead.

The offensive outburst in Game 2 followed a sluggish effort at the plate for the Lady Aggies in the opening contest. Cameron had just three hits in the game, including only one after the first inning.

The Lady Aggies loaded the bases with one out in the first inning, but failed to score, and Southeastern took a 1-0 lead in the second. The Savages broke the game open in the fifth, scoring six runs on seven hits off Hutton, who went the distance on the mound for Cameron.
