MATCH RESULTSť

LAWTON, Okla. (March 4) - Coach James Helvey's 16th-ranked Cameron men's tennis team improved to 6-1 on the season on Saturday, completing a weekend sweep in action at the CU Tennis Complex.

Cameron defeated Southwest Baptist and St. Mary's University handily, but went down to the wire with conference rival Central Oklahoma before pulling out a 5-3 victory.

Saturday's nightcap was filled with tight matches, as three of six singles matches went to tie-breakers. Cameron fell behind 2-1 after doubles play and trailed 3-1 when UCO's Javier Easton defeated Cameron's Nicolas Mascheroni, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot. But that proved to be the Bronchos' only singles victory.

Rafael Zurita pulled the Aggies within a point with a quick 6-2, 6-1, win over Christian Haugen at No. 5, before Jordi Mullor held off Mark Johnson to win 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) in the No. 3 match. The Aggies then took the match lead on David Detudamo's victory in the No. 6 showdown. Detudamo traded sets with UCO's Peter Davis before pulling out a 7-6 win in the third set by winning the tiebreaker, 7-5.

Cameron clinched the match at No. 1 singles, where Carlos Fernandez pulled out the Aggies' second third-set tiebreaker win of the afternoon with a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) win over Tomas Hladil.

Earlier in the day, Cameron had no problem with St. Mary's. The Aggies swept doubles play and got wins at Nos. 1, 3, 5 and 6 singles to post a 7-0 win over the Rattlers. Zurita led his No. 4 singles match 6-2, 2-0, over Alonso Rodriquez when the match was stopped.

Cameron opened weekend play on Friday morning, cruising to an 8-1 win over Southwest Baptist. The Aggies swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches, each coming in straight sets, to get the win.

Next action for the Aggie men is set for this weekend. Helvey will take both the men's and women's teams to Springfield, Mo., for a series of matches beginning on Friday.
