UPDATED STATISTICS»

PORTALES, N.M. (March 18) - L.J. Willis tossed a three-hit shutout on Saturday, leading the Cameron baseball team to a 3-0 win in the second game of a Lone Star Conference crossover doubleheader at Eastern New Mexico. The Aggies also won the first contest, 5-2, completeing a four-game sweep over the Greyhounds while improving to 12-13.

Willis, a senior right-hander from Taylor, Ariz., struck out three and walked none while collecting his first mound victory of the season. Junior righty Art Gonzales also picked up a complete-game win for the Aggies in Game 1, holding ENMU scoreless until the final inning and allowing just six hits.

Cameron got on the board early in Game 1. Waylon Pettet reached on an error to start the game and stole second before scoring on another Greyhound miscue to make it 1-0. The Aggies added two runs in the third on a John Herbert RBI single and Greg Patton's sacrifice fly, then made it a 5-0 game on a two-run single by Blake Hughes in the fourth.

Eastern New Mexico managed just four hits through the first six innings off Gonzales, who struck out three and walked one in the game. The Greyhounds went scoreless until the final inning, when Kelton Haynes' two-out double scored both ENMU runs.

Cameron got on top early in the second game, as well, as Herbert ripped a two-run single to make it 2-0 in the first. That score held until the fifth, when Hughes laced a single through the left side of the infield and scored on B.J. Cole's double to the gap in left-center to give the Aggies a 3-0 advantage.

Willis, meanwhile, allowed just one hit after the fourth inning. The Greyhounds managed to get just one runner past second base in the game. Matt Hinojosa sinlged in the third and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A balk sent Hinojosa to third, but Willis got Justin Gee to fly out to end the threat.

Cameron returns to action next week, hosting nationally ranked Abilene Christian in a four-game series scheduled to begin on Friday at McCord Field.
