Lady Aggies go 2-1 at Emporia State Invite

UPDATED STATISTICS»

EMPORIA, Kan. (March 19) - Coach Brent Shaw's Cameron softball team didn't get to play its anticipated game with top-ranked Emporia State, but the Lady Aggies still came away with a pair of wins at the ESU invitational.

Cameron posted wins over Fort Hays State and Augustana (S.D.) before losing to Central Missouri State on Saturday. The Lady Aggies were scheduled to face the No. 1-ranked host school on Sunday, but heavy rain overnight forced the cancellation of the remainder of the event.

Cameron (16-20) will return to action, weather permitting, on Tuesday in a Lone Star Conference North Division doubleheader at Southwestern Oklahoma State.

The Lady Aggies opened play on Saturday with a 4-3 win over Fort Hays State. Stephanie Bour homered in the top of the first inning to stake Cameron to a 1-0 lead and laced a two-run triple in the fifth to erase a 2-1 deficit. Bour finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Bethany Stefinsky also collected two hits for Cameron, while pitcher Jessica Hutton earned the complete-game victory. Hutton allowed three earned runs on seven hits, but struck out eight for her seventh win of the season.

Against Augustana, Cameron again got off to a 1-0 lead, this time on Allie Sanders' bases-loaded walk in the top of the first. The Lady Aggies scored an unearned run in the fifth and got an RBI single from Megan Young in the seventh to record the 3-0 win. Stefinsky went the distance on the mound for Cameron, allowing just three hits while striking out seven in her third shutout win of the year.

Bour homered again for Cameron in Saturday's nightcap against Central Missouri State, but it wasn't enough in the 5-3 loss to the Jennies. Bour's blast put the Lady Aggies up 2-1 in the fourth and the Cameron took a 3-1 lead on a bases-loaded walk to newcomer Shaleah Cooper later in the inning.

But CMSU scored once in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead for good on a two-run homer by Rachel Adams in the fifth.

Melinda Farrow led the Cameron offense in the game with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. Hutton took the mound loss, allowing four earned runs while striking out three.
