Cameron finishes sixth at Lady Lion Invitational

POTTSBORO, Texas (March 21) – Playing under cold, windy and still soggy conditions, the Cameron women’s golf team battled to a sixth-place finish at the Pepsi Lady Lion Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce at the Tanglewood Resort. Freshman Lauren Gonzales led the Lady Aggie contingent, finishing in a tie for 11th individually with a two-round total of 169.
Cameron entered the final round in fifth place and turned in a team score of 358 on Tuesday to remain near the top of the 17-team field. The Lady Aggies, who are in their first season of competition, finished third among the five Lone Star Conference schools competing in the tournament.
Gonzales was one of three Lady Aggies to finish among the individual Top 25 in the event. Sophomore Laura Madded carded a final-round 91 to finish in a tie for 21st, while freshman Renee Breeze jumped into a tie for 23rd by firing Cameron's low round of the day with an 83 on Tuesday. Devri Morgan finished in 60th individually for the Lady Aggies, while Krystle McCorgary tied for 72nd.
Redlands Community College captured the team title in the event, winning by 27 strokes over runner-up Central Arkansas. St. Edward's University was third, followed by Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma.
Individual medalist honors went to Camila Sola of Redlands. Sola fired rounds of 76 and 78 for a two-day total of 154 (+10).
Next action for the Cameron women is scheduled for April 3-4, at the West Texas A&M Invitational.
