Stefinsky, Lady Ags sweep Southwestern

UPDATED STATISTICS»

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (March 24) - Freshman Bethany Stefinsky tossed her fourth shutout in Game 1 Friday and the Cameron offense produced nine runs in the nightcap, cruising to a pair of Lone Star Conference North Division softball victories over Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Stefinsky earned the mound victory in both contests, as Coach Brent Shaw's Lady Aggies improved to 18-20 with wins of 3-0 and 9-4 over the Bulldogs.

The Lady Aggies, who are now 4-6 in LSC North play, will look to even their conference record on Saturday, hosting SWOSU in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The game has been designated Alumni Day at Cameron Field. Former Lawton MacArthur High School and Lady Aggie standout Lindsay Williams will throw out the first pitch and former Cameron players will be honored in a brief ceremony between games.

Stefinsky racked up a season-high 11 strikeouts and held Southwestern to just four hits in Friday's opening game. The Gonzales, Texas, right-hander struck out the first four batters she faced in the game and allowed just four baserunners through the first five innings.

Stefinsky also accounted for all the offense the Lady Aggies would need in the game, collecting an RBI single in the first to score Megan Young and give Cameron a 1-0 lead. She added an RBI double in the fourth to make it 2-0 and finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

Cameron scored its final run of the game in the seventh when Melinda Farrow led off the inning with a single and later scored on Shaleah Cooper's fielder's choice grounder.

Southwestern jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the nightcap, scoring three unearned runs over the first three innings. But the Cameron offense came alive in the fourth. With two outs, the Lady Aggies got a walk and five consecutive hits - including three straight doubles - to plate five runs in the inning and take a 5-4 lead.

Cameron added two more runs on a single by Young in the fifth and got solo homeruns by Farrow and Jen Morse in the final two innings to pull away.

Stefinsky allowed just one earned run on six hits over four innings to improve her mound record to 11-6. Senior Jessica Hutton worked the final three innings of the game, allowing just one hit while striking out six to earn her fourth save of the season.
