Chirchir runs away with OBU steeplechase win
SHAWNEE, Okla. (March 25) - Cameron University cross country runner David Chirchir continued his dominance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase this spring, winning the event at the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison Relays.
Chirchir, a freshman from Nairobi, Kenya, won the race by nearly a full minute, cruising to his second event title in as many chances this year. He finished with a time of 9:38, nearly 59 full seconds ahead of runner-up Ben Dorran of UT-Tyler, who crossed the finish line in 10:36.93.
The win gave Chirchir is second victory in as many tries in the steeplechase since joining the Cameron cross country squad in January. He also won the event going away at the Tarleton State Relays on March 9.
In addition to Chirchir, one other Cameron runner competed at OBU on Saturday. Duncan freshman Jon McMasters finished 12th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:15.
Next up for Cameron will be a trip to Austin, Texas, on April 5-8, to participate in the Texas Relays.
