Cameron shut out in twinbill loss to UCO

UPDATED STATISTICS»

LAWTON, Okla. (March 28) - Central Oklahoma pitcher Alli Blake tossed a one-hit, run-rule shortened shutout in the opener and Cameron failed to score in the nightcap, as well, dropping both ends of a Lone Star Conference North Division doubleheader to UCO at Cameron Field.

Central Oklahoma remained atop the LSC North standings with wins of 8-0 and 4-0 on Tuesday, dropping the Aggies to 19-23 overall and 5-9 in conference play. The teams will meet again on Saturday in Edmond.

Blake carried a no-hitter into the final inning of Game 1. The Oklahoma City sophomore kept the Aggies off the basepath until a walk to Shelby Davis with one out in the fourth, and allowed just one hit in the game - a leadoff single by Melinda Farrow in the fifth.

UCO (17-6, 10-0 LSC North) got on the board in the third on an RBI single by Lindsay Mitchell and opened up a four-run lead with three unearned runs in the fourth. The Bronchos loaded the bases in the fifth on a leadoff double by Christin Dobbs, a bunt single and a hit-by-pitch before Emilee Bounds put the game out of reach with a grand slam to center field.

Freshman Bethany Stefinsky took the loss on the mound for the Aggies, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. She struck out three of the first five batters she faced in the game.

In Game 2, Aggie pitcher Jessica Hutton dueled UCO's Jordan Akin to a scoreless tie through the first five innings of the game. But UCO manufactured a run in the top of the sixth to take a 1-0 lead on an RBI bunt by Meagan Campbell. Cameron loaded the bases on a Farrow single and two walks in the bottom half of the inning, but Akin got Cameron leadoff hitter Megan Young to ground out to end the threat.

UCO added three insurance runs in the seventh on a Karmen Kauk sacrifice fly and run-scoring hits by Dobbs and Campbell. Singles by Stephanie Bour and Farrow in the bottom of the seventh gave Cameron a pair of baserunners, but couldn't push across a run against Akin, who finished with eight strikeouts and five walks while allowing six hits. She stranded 12 Cameron baserunners in the game.

Farrow led the Aggies at the plate in both games. In addition to providing the only Cameron hit of the first contest, the Binger senior was 3-for-4 in the nightcap.

Hutton allowed nine hits and four runs with a walk and a strikeout to take the loss in Game 2.
