WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 3) - Cameron won two of three doubles matches Monday, but a three-set loss in the No. 5 singles match left the 18th-ranked Aggies just short in a 5-4 loss to No. 23 Midwestern State.
Coach James Helvey's squad, which dipped to 10-4 on the season with the loss, will look to rebound on Tuesday, hosting Dallas Baptist in a match scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
The Aggies jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles, winning both the No. 1 and No. 2 tandem matches. Rafael Zurita and David Detudamo won singles matches at the Nos. 4 and 6 slots, respectively, but MSU rallied to tie the score, winning the top three singles matches.
Monday's bout came down to the No. 5 singles match, where Cameron's Nicolas Macheroni and MSU's Zac Dillard traded points throughout the match. Dillard won the first set, 6-4, only to see Detudamo even the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. The third set went to a tie-breaker, with Dillard holding on for a 7-6 win in the frame to give MSU the team victory.
