AMARILLO, Texas (April 4) - Taking into account extremely windy conditions at Amarillo's La Paloma Golf Club, Cameron men's golf coach Jerry Hrnciar figured any team score below 300 would allow his Aggies to make a run at the team title in Tuesday's final round of the West Texas A&M Subway Invitational. Hrnciar got half his wish, as Cameron posted a 297, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.

Abilene Christian University fired the only other sub-300 team score with a combined 10-over 294 Tuesday to overtake St. Mary’s University and win the tournament by two strokes over the Rattlers. Cameron was third, 18 strokes back at 884, followed by host WTAMU (907) and East Central (911).

Owen Mahaffey led the Aggies, finishing in a three-way tie for third place with a three-round total of 215. Travis Lovins turned in the low round of the day for Cameron, closing with a two-over 73 to land in ninth place individually with a 220 total. Matt Trammel also finished among the individual leaders for the Aggies after a final-round 75 moved him into a tie for 14th at 223. Peter Svajlen finished with a 231 total, while Cane Shumaker totaled 232, including a 73 on Tuesday.

Jamie Amoretti of St. Mary’s captured individual medalist honors with a 3-under 210. ACU’s Cian Daly was second with a 1-over 214, one stroke ahead of Mahaffey, Greg McAuley of St. Mary's and ACU’s Curtis Harris. All five received All-Tournament honors.

On the women's side, Western New Mexico University maintained its 17-stroke lead despite the windy conditions to win the event, which was played across the street from the men at Tascosa Country Club. Central Oklahoma's Ashley Kelley captured individual medalist honors, winning a one-hole playoff with WNMU’s Katharine Dorris after both players finished tied at 152 after 36 holes.

Coach Rick Goodwin's Lady Aggies posted a final-round team score of 355 to finish with a 703 total, just six strokes back of fifth-place Texas A&M-Commerce.

Lawton freshman Renee Breeze led Cameron with an 11th-place individual finish. Breeze shaved six strokes off her opening-round 86 to finish with a 166 total. Fellow freshman Lauren Gonzales also earned a Top 20 finish, landing in a tie for 18th with a 171 total. Laura Madden shot 179, while Devri Morgan finished at 189. Jennifer Madden posted a 190 total for the Lady Aggies and Krystle McCorgary, playing unattached, shot a 186.

Tuesday marked the final tune-up before postseason competition for both Cameron teams, which are scheduled to compete in the Lone Star Conference Championships, April 17-18 at Trophy Club, Texas.
