LAWTON, Okla. (April 8) - Senior pitcher Jessica Hutton collected her fourth shutout win of the season Saturday, tossing a one-hitter in the opening game of Cameron's doubleheader sweep of East Central in Lone Star Conference North Division action at Cameron Field.
The Lady Aggies (22-26, 8-12 LSC North) won the first game 3-0, then posted a 7-3 victory in the nightcap for their third straight win.
Hutton dominated the Lady Tigers from start to finish in Saturday's opening contest. The Choctaw right-hander faced just four batters over the minimum and carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning. A one-out single by Amanda Boyse in the fourth was the only blemish on Hutton's pitching line, as she finished the game with five strikeouts and no walks. Three other ECU hitters reached base by error.
Cameron broke a scoreless tie in the fourth. Megan Young led off the frame with a single to center before stealing second. Young then scored when Shelby Davis' fly ball to left field was dropped.
Coach Brent Shaw's Lady Aggies added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth on Bethany Stefinsky's team-leading sixth home run of the year, a two-run shot to left-center that made it 3-0. Stefinsky's blast was one of just three hits off ECU pitcher Cara Gaskins, who took the loss despite a seven-strikeout effort.
Cameron used RBI singles by Stefinsky and Casey Seabolt to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap. But ECU took its only lead of the day with a three-run third inning that included home runs by Jayme Miller and Boyse.
But the Lady Aggies scored the final five runs of the contest to earn the comeback victory. After Shaleah Cooper and Stephanie Bour opened the Cameron half of the fourth inning with back-to-back hits, Young singled in both runners to put Cameron ahead for good. Allie Sanders added a two-run homer in the fifth and Young scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to give the Lady Aggies their margin of victory.
Four Cameron players - Bour, Young, Stefinsky and Seabolt - had two hits in the game. Young finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored.
Stefinsky picked up the mound win, striking out seven and allowing just three earned runs despite 10 ECU hits in the game. Kelli Dyson took the loss for the Lady Tigers, surrendering 10 hits and six runs (two earned) in four and two-thirds innings.
Next up for Cameron is a LSC crossover doubleheader at home with Abilene Christian on Friday. Five Lady Aggies seniors will be honored prior to the start of the games during Senior Day activities.
