Lady Aggies finish third at Park Invite

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 11) - Led by Laura Madden's individual Top 10 finish, the Cameron women's golf team collected its first hardware in the program's young history Tuesday. Coach Rich Goodwin's squad finished third at the Park University Spring Invitational, which was played on the Tom Watson-designed course at The National Golf Club of Kanas City.
Madden fired rounds of 85 and 91 under windy conditions to finish with a 176 total on the par 72, 5,870-yard layout. Renee Breeze and Lauren Gonzales also finished among the individual Top 10, both finishing two stokes behind Madden at 178. Krystle McCorgary came in with a 184 for the Lady Aggies, while Devri Morgan shot 207. Jennifer Madden, playing unattached, carded a final-round 99 to post a 201 total.
NCAA Division I Western Illinois won the team competition in the event with a combined score of 686. The University of Missouri-Kansas City, also a Division I school, finished four strokes back of UWI for second place. Cameron was the top Division II finisher in the event, topping fifth-place Rockhurst University by nearly 50 strokes.
Individual honors went to UWI's Karra Johnson, who followed her opening-round 81 with a 79 on Tuesday to win by three strokes over Park's Katie Johnson. Both players shared tournament low-round honors, posting identical scores in the final round.
Next up for Cameron is a trip to Trophy Club, Texas, for the annual Lone Star Conference Championships. First-round action in the tournament begins Monday at Trophy Club Golf Club.
