LAWTON, Okla. (April 18) - Forced to use a makeshift lineup after injuries to two of its top players, the Cameron softball team dropped both ends of a Tuesday doubleheader with Lone Star Conference North Division rival Southeastern Oklahoma.
SOSU won the first game 4-1, then capitalized on three Cameron errors to take a 7-1 decision in the nightcap.
Senior Casey Seabolt accounted for both Lady Aggie runs on the day. The Bixby native had an RBI double in the fifth inning of Game 1, and belted her first homerun of the season in the sixth inning of Game 2. The blast was one of only three Cameron hits in the second contest, as the Lady Aggies fell to 23-29 overall and 8-14 in LSC North play.
SOSU (36-10, 16-6) went the first three innings Tuesday without a run, but broke a scoreless tie in the fourth on a pair of run-scoring sacrifice bunts. Seabolt's drive in the fifth scored Bethany Stefinsky to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Savage Storm answered with two more runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run triple by Emily McNamara to seal the win.
Christina Cearley improved her impressive mound record to 20-5 with the win for SOSU. Cearley struck out 10, while scattering six Cameron hits. Jessica Hutton was saddled with the loss for Cameron, allowing just three earned runs on eight hits.
Southeastern jumped on top early in the second game and never looked back, leading 5-0 before Seabolt's solo blast in the sixth broke up Jami McAdoo's shutout bid. McAdoo walked five, but allowed just three hits and struck out three. Bethany Stefinsky struck out eight on the mound for the Lady Aggies, but surrendered 10 hits and four earned runs.
Southeastern scored a run in the first on a Cameron error and made it 4-0 in the third, scoring twice on Lady Aggie miscues before Tressi Irby singled in another unearned run.
The Savage Storm picked up another run in the top of the sixth, then plated two more on Elicia Marquez's two-run homer to left-center in the top of the seventh.
Cameron will conclude the 2006 regular season on Saturday, facing Southeastern again in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2 p.m, in Durant.
