LAWTON, Okla. (April 19) - Ryan Totte tossed his second complete-game shutout of the season Wednesday, helping the Cameron baseball team recover from a Game 1 loss to split doubleheader action against East Central at McCord Field.
ECU scored two runs in the seventh to win the opener 3-2, before the Aggies rallied with an 8-0 victory in the nightcap to move to 28-18 overall and 13-4 in Lone Star Conference North Division play.
Totte (5-2) allowed just three hits and struck out four in the win, which kept Cameron tied with Central Oklahoma atop the LSC North standings. UCO split a doubleheader on the road Wednesday at Southeastern Oklahoma.
Cameron got on the board in the second inning of Game 2, breaking the scoreless tie with three hits. John Herbert led off the frame with an infield single and later scored on a double play to make it 1-0. The Aggies then capitalized on two ECU errors and B.J. Cole's sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 in the third.
LSC North Hitter of the Week Matt Machinski doubled in a run in the third before Waylon Pettet added a two-run single to put the Aggies up 5-0.
Cameron extended its lead in the fifth, using Mark Armstrong's triple down the right field line to score two. Machinski then picked up his second RBI of the game, scoring Armstrong with a single to left to forge the final margin.
Aggie starter Kacy Groves had a three-hit shutout working in Wednesday's opener, but the Tigers came on late to pick up the come-from-behind victory. Cameron led 2-0 on Armstrong's two-run homer in the third, but East Central scored once in the fifth after Groves hit consecutive batters and Jay Neal scored from second on Clay Mack's single.
Tyler Pybas led off the seventh with a double to right-center, chasing Groves from the game. After a sacrifice bunt moved Pybas to third, Greg Minter doubled off Cameron reliever Ryan Bengert to tie the score. Cody Carrier then singled down the left field line for the Tigers, scoring Minter with the winning run.
Bengert took the loss for the Aggies, allowing one run on two hits. David Henley earned the complete-game win for ECU, allowing just three hits while striking out three.
